Gordon Tanner is the Director of Homelessness Initiatives and Prevention Services at the City of Toronto.

Gord has a BSW from Ryerson University and an MSW from McGill University.  He started his career coordinating the Health Bus, a mobile health program in downtown Toronto, connecting people experiencing homelessness with a range of harm reduction and primary care services.  In 2005 he joined the City of Toronto with the newly created housing first team – Streets to Homes.  Since that time he has held a number of positions overseeing grant programs and an initiative to open a number of new shelters in Toronto including new services for LGBTQ2S youth.

In 2015 he moved into his current role which oversees the delivery of Toronto’s shelter, 24-hour respite programs and street outreach services.  Toronto’s shelter system provides services to over 6,000 people each night including a continuum of low barrier services.
