What is Social Value?

Social Value is about understanding the relative importance that people place on changes to their wellbeing. It is about using the insights we gain from this to make better decisions.

The Principles of Social Value guide this process by ensuring people affected are included - empowering them to voice changes they experience, how their wellbeing is impacted, and what matters most. This helps decision-makers allocate resources to maximize impact and create the greatest value possible.

Social Value is about listening, respecting the experiences of others, and being accountable for the impact we have. It’s about making decisions that optimize value for people and the planet. It represents a broader understanding of value, created through social, environmental, and financial outcomes.

Globally, Social Value International is driving change toward a more sustainable and equitable world. Social Value Canada is proud to bring this movement to Canada - helping organizations to embrace these principles, engage meaningfully with people affected, and to work toward solutions that benefit society and the planet.
